Using your client portal: a guide for clients
A plain-English walkthrough your practice can share with clients: how to sign in, upload documents, approve and sign work, ask questions and pay invoices in the portal.
Your accountant or bookkeeper uses Finye to run your work, and gives you a secure client portal to go with it. It is one branded place to see what is happening, hand over documents and respond — instead of digging through email. This guide is written for you, the client; practices are welcome to share it directly.
Signing in
- Your practice sends you an invitation email with a secure link.
- Follow the link and set a password the first time.
- After that, sign in any time with your email address and password.
The portal carries your practice's own logo and colours, so it should look familiar. If you did not receive an invitation, ask your accountant to resend it to the right email address.
See your jobs and what needs you
When you sign in you land on your home screen, which shows the work your practice is doing for you and, importantly, anything that is waiting on you — a document to upload, a question to answer or something to approve. Open any item to see its detail and history.
Upload documents and respond to requests
Instead of emailing files back and forth, you hand them over securely in the portal:
- Open the request or job your practice has raised.
- Attach your documents — statements, receipts, logbooks, whatever was asked for.
- Add a note if you want to explain anything, then send.
Your practice is notified straight away, and everything stays attached to the right job, so nothing gets lost.
Approve and sign off work
When your accountant needs your sign-off — on a return, a set of accounts or an engagement — it appears in the portal as an approval:
- Open the item and review the document.
- Choose to approve it, or send it back with a comment if something needs changing.
- When approving, type your name to provide your e-signature.
That is your legally recorded sign-off — no printing, scanning or posting. You can download a copy of the document for your own records at any time.
Ask a question or make a request
You do not have to wait to be contacted. From the portal you can start a new request — a question, a change of details, or a new piece of work — and it goes straight to your practice as a tracked item rather than an email that might be missed. You can also reply on any existing job, and attach files to your reply.
Pay invoices online
When your practice sends an invoice, you can pay it online securely by card or bank, so there is no manual bank transfer to remember. Some documents can even be set up so you pay as you sign — settling a deposit at the moment you approve the work.
Keep your details up to date
Use your profile to keep your contact details current. Accurate details mean reminders and updates reach you, and your practice always has the right information on file.
Getting the most from the portal
- Check in when you get an email saying something needs you — it usually takes a couple of minutes.
- Upload documents through the portal rather than email, so they are secure and attached to the right job.
- Keep your login details safe; the portal holds your private financial information.
Tip: Bookmark the portal after your first sign-in, so it is one click away whenever your accountant needs something from you.
