Using Finye AI: summaries, triage, compose and drafts
A practical guide to Finye's AI tools - ticket summaries, triage, reply compose and one-line drafts - plus how the metered credit wallet works.
Finye's AI features help your practice clear the inbox faster. They summarise long client threads, suggest where a new request should go, draft replies in your tone, and turn a one-line brief into a structured work item. Every AI action draws from a metered credit wallet, so you only pay for what you use. This guide walks through each tool and how to switch them on.
Before you start
AI actions consume credits from your tenant's wallet. A principal or admin needs to top the wallet up (or connect your own provider key) before staff can use AI. Check your balance under Settings, then look for the AI or credits area. If the wallet is empty, AI buttons still appear but will prompt you to add credits.
AI is a drafting and triage aid, not a replacement for professional judgement. Always review anything it produces before it reaches a client - especially where lodgment dates, figures or advice are involved.
AI ticket summary
When a work item has a long comment history or a forwarded email chain, the AI summary condenses it into a few lines so you can pick up the matter without reading the whole thread.
- Open the work item.
- Find the AI summary panel near the top of the conversation.
- Select Summarise. Finye reads the description and comments and returns a short summary of what the client wants and where things stand.
- The summary is cached, so reopening the item does not spend more credits. If the thread changes - a new comment or status update - you can refresh it to capture the latest.
This is most useful when a colleague is away and someone else needs to step into a half-finished BAS query or a client onboarding without losing context.
AI triage
Triage takes the friction out of sorting incoming requests. When a new work item arrives - often via email-to-ticket - the AI reads it and suggests a priority, an assignee and a category.
- Open a newly received or unassigned work item.
- Look for the triage suggestion, which shows the recommended priority, assignee and category.
- Review each suggestion. If it fits, apply it; if not, set the values yourself. Nothing is changed until you accept it.
Triage is a suggestion engine, not an auto-pilot. It is handy when a shared inbox fills up quickly - for example during the lead-up to a BAS deadline - and you want incoming jobs roughly sorted before a person picks them up. For more on routing work, see our guides on work items and boards.
AI reply and compose
Compose drafts a reply to a client based on the conversation so far. It is built for the back-and-forth of a client service desk, where you are answering the same kinds of questions repeatedly.
- Open the work item you want to reply to.
- In the comment or reply box, select the AI Compose option.
- Optionally give it a short instruction, such as "ask for the missing receipts" or "confirm the return is lodged".
- Finye produces a draft reply. Edit it freely - tighten the wording, add the client's name, check any figures - then send.
Because the draft is generated from the thread, it picks up context like what the client asked and what you have already provided. Treat the output as a first pass: the accountant still owns the words that go out.
AI draft: brief to work item
Draft turns a one-line description into a structured work item, saving you from filling in every field manually.
- Start a new work item or use the AI draft entry point.
- Type a brief, for example "Set up quarterly BAS for Jones Family Trust, due 28 Feb".
- Finye expands it into a work item with a sensible title, description and suggested fields.
- Review and adjust the board, assignee, due date and priority, then save.
This pairs well with recurring and templated jobs: use draft to capture an ad-hoc request quickly, and templates for the repeatable compliance work.
Knowledge base and dashboard AI
Two further helpers round out the toolkit. AI knowledge-base drafting helps you write a knowledge base article from scratch or from an existing work item, so a one-off answer becomes reusable guidance. The dashboard AI summary gives principals a short read on what is happening across the practice. Both draw from the same credit wallet.
Managing credits
Keep an eye on the wallet so AI does not stall mid-task.
- Platform credits: top up through Finye, with optional auto-recharge so the balance refills when it runs low.
- Bring your own key: connect your own AI provider key if your firm prefers to manage usage directly.
- Visibility: check the balance regularly, particularly in busy periods around quarter-end.
Getting the most from AI
A few habits make these tools more reliable. Give triage and compose clean, complete descriptions so they have something to work with. Always review summaries and drafts before acting on them, and never let AI set or confirm a lodgment date without a human check. Used this way, Finye's AI clears routine work so your team spends more time on the matters that need an accountant.
